Best location in the Mentawais
We have access to many waves in the area. Due to many years of experience we have lots of options to really make the most out of your surfing trip. As we are located just in front of the wave “Scarecrows”, this is the perfect base to start from. "Scarecrows" is a very consistent wave as it picks up most available swell. It is surfable at any tide and any size. That is why we are located in the sweetest spot of the Mentawais.
Waves
"Scarecrows": This wave is going to be your front yard. It is surfable on any tide and picks up most available swell. That is why scarecrows is one of the most consistent waves in the Mentawais. It is a long left-hander that works at almost all sizes. The ride can be up to 180 metres (200 yards).
Depending on the swell size and direction the wave offers open faces for carving, long racing sections and multiple barrel sections. On a good day you find all of this on one wave.
The wave is suitable to surfers on all skill levels (intermediate - advanced). The reef is pretty deep by Mentawai standards. Only the insight section gets a bit shallower. If you commit you might get rewarded by an intense barrel though.
Suicides: A right hander that breaks over a live, shallow reef. It is best surfed on high tide. You can either take off deep and try to make a fast section or take off in a hollow section straight into the barrel. The wave fattens out in the channel so you have the chance for a couple of turns.
Telescopes: The world famous wave is a long lefthander. It is not as consistent as some of the waves in the area as it needs a special swell direction. Once it is on though it might be one of the funnest waves in the world. On a good day it wraps around the bay of Mapadegat. Rides of over 200 meters (218 yards) are possible. There are many predictable sections. Carve the open faces and pull into the barrel sections. Telescopes is quite forgiving as the reef is relatively deep. Just have an eye on those bigger sets breaking further up the reef.
7 Palms: Only a short ride from our island you will find 7 Palms. This wave is fun for every surf level. 7 Palms peels off along the reef in front of a scenic limestone coved beach. It is fully rippable and a fun option on smaller days. Sometimes there might be even barrel potential. If the swell is bigger, this wave tends to close out and would not be the first option.
Icelands: Icelands is a swell magnet. You will find a surfable wave almost every day. The take off is kind of steep. The ride is relatively short with an option of a few turns and an occasional barrel. On a really big day this spot turns into a big wave spot. On those days you would need a bigger board to paddle into this powerful left.
